Octoberness

So it’s early September and, obviously, we are not up and running yet

We’re now looking at late October. We’ll of course be posting when we will be officially taking submissions, so stay tuned!

Almost There

We’re really close to an official launch, hopefully in early September.

We’ve got a web designer on hand who’s going to make us work and look pretty, so if we’re down for a few days, it’s just because we’re working out the kinks.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to let us know: editor@thepapercolony.com.

What is The Paper Colony?

We’re an online and print literary magazine run by a couple editors and a vast team of writers, namely, you. Because we feel it’s high time for the people to have the paper again.

The state and manner of publishing hasn’t changed much in hundreds of years. Sure we’ve gone from paper to digital, but the same people still hold the power. Writers always end up on the losing end. The editors of small presses to large publishers decide what literature is and what and who to publish. But we think it’s time for writers to decide what literature is.

The Paper Colony works like this:

You register on the site.

You submit your story for possible publication to submit@thepapercolony.com, and choose a paragraph (up to 200 words) for your “preview.”

You vote on other submitted stories based on their previews.

The top stories, plus one or two editor’s picks, get published in that edition of the journal, which will be available as a printed publication and in a screen-friendly format. So you don’t get to read the stories you voted on unless you buy the magazine.

Rinse and repeat.

Thanks for looking around. We’re brand new so if there’s anything you see missing or that you want on the site, please let us know by emailing us at editor@thepapercolony.com.
